Namu Amida Butsu

This work is especially dedicated to Zuiken Saizo Inagaki, who sheds light on the pristine and original teachings of Jodo Shinshu (Shin Buddhism) for many people, including myself. I regard him as my soul teacher and I am very much influenced by his words and thoughts, which are deeply imbued with the Wisdom of Compassion of Amida Buddha. I read most of his writings available in Chinese language and I wish to share some of his golden words in this blog in English. Rev. George Gatenby and Mr. Gabriel Schlaefer have been kindly and untiringly assisting me to edit the translated essays so that they are readable and true to the intent of Sensei. May all partake of the wisdom of Shinshu teaching and be overpowered by the light of Amida Buddha.

Resolute Faith in the Supreme Wisdom of the Buddha

We heard that the Pure Land is ten billion Buddha-lands away from here, but the shortcut is one calling of "Namo." Because it contains the two characters "Na-mo," the mind of thinking thereafter we shall obtain shinjin for birth has gone. Although I have thought of acquiring shinjin before, the Tathagata has accomplished Namo Amida Butsu, and through the inconceivable Name and Vow-power all sentient beings are definitely saved. So my mind is at peace. The anjin of the Tathagata is my anjin, and the Enlightenment of the Tathagata is my Birth. Sincere mind, joyful faith, and aspiration for Birth are the calling voice of the Tathagata; by one thought-moment of hearing-faith, it instantly becomes mine. This is called "have resolute faith in the supreme wisdom of the Buddha." What is called "have resolute faith in the supreme wisdom of the Buddha" is "without leaving delusion behind" and "it is transformed completely into the Buddha's mind and wisdom." As the Buddha's mind and wisdom are not separate from delusion, the Buddha becomes the cause of our Birth. Forgetting about shinjin, be mindful of the Tathagata always.
